If you've followed my content for a while, you know I love pulling back the curtain to share the real stories behind jewelry marketing. But today, I’m flipping the script—because I realized I’ve never truly shared what it’s like to run a marketing agency that supports jewelry brands every single day.
So whether you're a fellow entrepreneur, a jewelry brand owner, or someone curious about what goes into running a jewelry-focused service-based business, this behind-the-scenes peek is for you.
Why Talk About the Realities of Running a Jewelry Marketing Agency?
When I released our ninth-anniversary episode a few weeks ago and shared my top five business lessons, I was blown away by the feedback. Many of you told me how refreshing and helpful it was to hear the real stuff—not just polished strategies and how-to advice, but the emotional and practical realities of running a business.
That made me think: why don’t I share more of that? There’s this misconception that service-based businesses are either super glamorous or a chaotic mess. The truth? It’s a little of both—but mostly, it’s a lot of problem-solving, decision-making, and staying three steps ahead.
And even if you don’t run a service-based business, this still applies to you. As a jewelry brand owner or marketer, you’re also growing something meaningful. You’re navigating challenges, adapting to change, and holding on to big dreams—just like we are.
What Marketing Really Looks Like in 2025
Let’s get one thing straight: marketing isn't what most people think it is.
In pop culture, it's often portrayed as either super sexy and glamorous—you know, the high-rise office, the lattes, the boardroom pitches—or as pushy, manipulative, and superficial. But in 2025? It’s something else entirely.
Modern marketing is like juggling flaming torches while building IKEA furniture and studying human psychology. It’s creative and technical. It’s powered by data, constantly evolving platforms, and audience behavior patterns. To stay relevant, you need to commit to continuous learning. Even then, having the knowledge isn’t enough—you have to know how to apply it, adjust, and problem-solve on the fly.
Honestly? Marketing today takes brainpower, resilience, and a lot of focus.
What Joy Joya Actually Does for Jewelry Brands
So, what do we really do at Joy Joya?
We’re a full-service marketing agency that specializes in helping jewelry brands grow—especially through email marketing and content marketing. But those services are just the tip of the iceberg.
Why Do We Focus on Email Marketing?
We didn’t plan to become a go-to email marketing agency for jewelry brands. It just happened because we saw the massive potential—and how underutilized this channel was for most small to medium-sized jewelry businesses.
Email is the channel that consistently delivers ROI. It builds relationships, drives repeat sales, and nurtures loyal fans. And yet, so many brands treat it like an afterthought—sending sporadic campaigns or setting up a couple of flows and calling it a day.
At Joy Joya, we help jewelry brands take control of their email marketing. We optimize what’s already in place, build sustainable systems, and anchor your entire marketing strategy around email so that everything else—social media, website content, promotions—can align seamlessly.
Jewelry Email Marketing Is Both Effective and Fun
Yes, we love the data. Yes, we geek out over segmentation. But we also love the creative side—telling stories, inspiring audiences, and making people feel something through their inbox. When done right, email isn’t just marketing—it’s a conversation with your biggest fans.
Meet the Joy Joya Dream Team
This kind of work wouldn’t be possible without our incredible team:
- Me (Laryssa) – I lead client strategy, sales, content creation, and high-level decision-making. I stay involved in every client relationship to make sure we’re always aligned with the big picture.
- Kelly – Our Email and Content Specialist. She turns vision into words. From writing copy to planning campaigns, she ensures everything speaks the brand’s voice.
- Golda – Our Graphic Designer. She brings the visuals to life. Whether it’s an email banner or a social post, she makes sure everything looks polished and on-brand.
- Rebecca – Our Client Account Manager. She’s the glue between our team and the client, keeping communication clear and projects on track.
- Tia – Our Email Marketing Operations Specialist. She’s the detail-checker, the tester, the link-tester, and the segmentation expert. No email goes out without her final stamp of approval.
- Carylis – She wears multiple hats. From managing internal operations to planning our own marketing content (including this blog!), she’s helping me keep Joy Joya’s internal workings running smoothly.
A Day in My Life as an Agency Owner
I’m based on the West Coast, so I usually start early—often by 7:30 a.m.—to catch East Coast clients. At 10 a.m., the whole team meets for a daily huddle. It’s part project check-in, part problem-solving, and part romance novel discussion (yes, really!).
My day might include reviewing marketing strategies, jumping into client meetings, or recording podcast episodes. I’m also the one handling the not-so-glamorous side of agency life: HR, payroll, contracts, software, and systems. Tools we live by? Asana, Klaviyo, Canva, Slack, and Google Workspace.
Each week, I also make time to network with other agency owners and jewelry industry pros to stay connected and inspired.
And while it may seem like a lot (and it is!), I genuinely love being the glue that holds everything together.
The Not-So-Glamorous Side of Running a Marketing Agency
Here’s something people often overlook: marketing is maybe 30% of what we actually do. The other 70%? It’s operations. It’s making sure everything gets done—on time, by the right person, with the right files and approvals.
It’s project management, it’s follow-up, it’s logistics.
Yes, marketing is the icing. But operations? That’s the cake.
Without systems, communication, and accountability, even the best creative ideas won’t go anywhere. That’s why we treat operations just as seriously as strategy.
